The Journey of Coffee Beans: From Plant to Cup

1. Harvesting

Ripe coffee cherries, resembling cherries in appearance, are carefully picked from coffee plants. These cherries contain the coffee beans we roast and grind.

2. Pulping

The cherries are pulped to remove the outer skin and pulp, leaving the beans and a sticky substance called mucilage.

3. Fermentation

The beans and mucilage are often fermented in tanks or in piles for several hours or days. This process develops the flavor and aroma of the coffee beans.

4. Washing

The fermented beans are washed to remove any remaining mucilage.

5. Drying

The beans are then dried, either in the sun or using mechanical dryers. Drying reduces moisture content and preserves the beans for storage.

6. Hulling

The dried beans are hulled to remove the parchment layer that surrounds them.

7. Grading and Sorting

Ripe coffee cherries, resembling cherries in appearance, are carefully picked from coffee plants. These cherries contain the coffee beans we roast and grind.

8. Roasting

Roasting is a crucial step that transforms the raw coffee beans into the flavorful product we enjoy. Roasting develops the aroma, flavor, and color of the beans.

9. Grinding

Roasted beans are ground to the desired coarseness, depending on the brewing method.

10. Brewing

The ground coffee is brewed with hot water to extract its flavor and create a delicious cup of coffee.
